Privacy policy
Tracks is a UK train journey planner. This policy explains what information Tracks collects, why, who it’s shared with, and the choices you have.
Tracks is run by Kartar Jabanda (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy or your data, email support@tracksapp.app.
The short version
- You can use Tracks without giving us your name or email address.
- We collect what the app needs to work: your account, the journeys you track, and a token to send you notifications.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
Your account
When you first open Tracks, we create an anonymous account for you. It has a random ID and no personal details.
If you choose to create a full account, we also store:
- your email address, if you sign up with email
- an identifier from Apple or Google, and the email address they share with us, if you sign in with Apple or Google
- your name, if Apple shares it the first time you sign in with Apple
Your journeys
We store the journeys you track, and a history of the journeys you’ve taken with the app. That includes stations, scheduled and actual times, delays, and whether you told us you travelled. This is saved to your account so it’s available on your other devices and after you reinstall. We also store which journeys you’ve muted notifications for.
Searches
When you search for a journey or open the live tracker, the stations and times are sent to our server, which asks National Rail for timetable and live train information. Our server doesn’t save your searches to your account.
Like most online services, our server keeps technical logs of the requests it receives so we can keep it running and stop abuse. These logs include your IP address, the request itself (which can include the stations and times you searched for), your device type, and a scrambled form of your account ID. They’re kept for a limited period, then deleted automatically.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can tell you about delays, cancellations and platform changes on journeys you track. To avoid telling you the same thing twice, we also keep a record of the last update we sent you about each journey.
Location
If you allow location access, Tracks uses your location on your device to centre the map and to suggest stations near you. We don’t send your location to our servers or store it. On Android, the map is provided by Google Maps; on iOS, by Apple Maps.
Purchases
If you buy Tracks Pro, the purchase is handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check which purchases belong to your account; it receives your account ID and your purchase and subscription details from the store. We keep a copy of whether your account has Tracks Pro, which plan it is and when it ends, so notifications keep working while the app is closed.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or hits an error, we send a report to Sentry so we can fix it. Reports include technical details about the error and your device and app version, identified only by your account ID. They don’t include your name, email address or location.
We don’t use analytics or advertising tools.
Why we use it
- To provide the app: your account, your tracked journeys and history, syncing between devices, live train information and notifications. This is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- To process purchases: to unlock Tracks Pro and restore it on other devices.
- To fix problems and keep the service secure: crash reports and server logs help us find bugs and stop abuse. This is in our legitimate interest in keeping the app working.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that run parts of Tracks for us:
| Service | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores your account and journeys | United Kingdom |
| Google Cloud | Runs our server and notification service, and keeps their logs | United Kingdom |
| Expo | Delivers push notifications | United States |
| RevenueCat | Manages Tracks Pro purchases | United States |
| Sentry | Receives crash reports | European Union |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, app stores, payments and notifications | Worldwide |
| National Rail | Timetable and live train data (no account information is shared) | United Kingdom |
Where information is transferred outside the UK, it’s protected by the safeguards these providers use, such as standard contractual clauses.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account and journeys: until you delete your account.
- Notification tokens: until you delete your account, or the token stops working.
- Server logs: kept for a limited period, then deleted automatically.
- Crash reports: kept by Sentry for a limited period, then deleted.
- Purchase records: kept by RevenueCat and the stores as they require for accounting and tax.
Deleting your account
In Tracks, go to Settings and choose Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your tracked and past journeys, your mutes and your notification tokens. It can’t be undone. If you no longer have the app, you can request deletion by email. You can also ask us to delete some of your data and keep your account.
Deleting the app doesn’t delete your account. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription: cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can ask to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your information, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email support@tracksapp.app and we’ll respond within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Tracks isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app.
